Kylie swoops on prime property

POP princess Kylie Minogue, 37, is building a hideaway paradise fit for royalty on French Island.

Amid rumours she may marry there, Kylie has dramatically expanded her secluded estate.
After buying a retreat 18 months ago, Kylie has snapped up 80ha of forests and rolling pastures only 400m away.

The latest purchase takes Kylie's island empire to 100ha, 50 times the size of the MCG oval and half the size of the Melbourne CBD.

The most private spot on the island -- accessible only by ferry -- the new property is surrounded by dense forest.

But behind the trees the plot opens into a vast open plain, with views across Western Port to the Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne and the Strezlecki Ranges. And beyond the plain is national park.

"There are few places in the world more private and peaceful -- and it is only 60km from Melbourne," a neighbour said.

No expense is being spared on transforming Kylie's other island property into a luxury escape.

In a nod to her expected husband-to-be, Olivier Martinez, the retreat has been given a distinctly French flavour.

Named Beauciel (French for beautiful sky), its address Ca 7, Rue Mont Wellington (the French version of its 7 Mt Wellington Rd address) is emblazoned on an elaborate stone-pillar gateway.

With strong rumours that Kylie could tie the knot there, a workman appeared to be preparing the home for visitors.

In February, a Melbourne wedding dress shop closed for a VIP customer, a week after Kylie was seen there.

Martinez's mother, Rosemarie, was then quoted as saying the couple would marry on the island during autumn.
