Slavonski Brod
SLAVONSKI BROD - GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
The city of Slavonski Brod is situated in the East part of Croatia
that is called Slavonija. It is the center of one of the six
Slavonijan counties (županija), called Brodsko – posavska County.
It is situated between hills of Dilj on the North and
the river of Sava on the South and it’s the
main crossroad
for traveling West-East and North-South.
Railroad and highway that connect West Europe with the Middle East
are going through the city and on the river of Sava there is a
main bridge with a railroad track and regular traffic lanes
that connects Croatia and Bosnia (it also has an international
border crossing).
The traces that are still there from the Roman Empire are showing
that the North-South crossing across the river was
always there, and that’s why Slavonski Brod is sometimes called
"The North door to Bosnia". The ship canal through the river of
Sava is being used since the Roman Empire and today there are oil pipes
parallel with the river of Sava through Slavonija.
With the law about the territories of the districts and townships
in the Republic of Croatia (magazine "Narodne novine" no.90/92 and 10/97)
the city of Slavonski Brod became the administrative center
of the Brodsko-posavska županija and today includes
Slavonski Brod, Brodski Varoš, and Podvinje.
