Eko bomba u Slavonskom Brodu - kancerogeni kreozot teče otvorenim kanalom u Savu

Wiki Creosote
Long-term exposure to low levels of creosote, especially direct contact with the skin during wood treatment or manufacture of coal tar creosote-treated products has resulted in skin cancer and cancer of the scrotum.

EU legislation: Creosote oil in wood products
(lista zakona i propisa EU o korištenju kreozota
Creosote is a mixture of many chemicals and is used, among others, to preserve wood. In the late 1990s, research showed that human exposure to creosote could cause cancer. In the European Union, Directive 2001/90/EC, amending Directive 76/769/EEC, prohibits the marketing of wood treated with creosote and certain other substances. The Directive also provides for certain specific exemptions

Commission directive restricts creosote applications
The European Commission adopted, on 26 October, a new Directive banning the sale to consumers of the wood preservative creosote, after an EU scientific committee concluded from a recent study that creosote has a greater potential to cause cancer than previously thought, and exceeds the limits permissible under existing legislation.

Creosote Removal, OnlineLawyerSource.com, USA
Removal of creosote must be done in a controlled environment to prevent it from seeping into water systems and to prevent particles from getting into the air. Trucks used to remove the creosote from a toxic area must be washed thoroughly to prevent dried materials from flying off and polluting other areas, and the water used to wash the trucks must be cleaned before it flows into storm sewers in order to avoid getting into groundwater and perpetuating the pollution. Removal trucks are also sealed before leaving removal sites.

Have you been exposed to Creosote?
Schmidt&Clark, Law Firm, Washington D.C, USA

In 1978, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) acknowledged that exposure to the popular wood preservative Creosote posed a carcinogenic danger to humans.
Who is at risk of exposure? Workers in the wood preserving industry involved in building fences, bridges, railroad tracks or installing telephone poles, as well as, workers in the asphalt, rubber, aluminum, iron, steel, tire, coke-producing industries are at serious risk of exposure to Creosote.
In addition, children may ingest creosote if they put their unwashed hands in their mouths after touching soil or wood contaminated with creosote. Creosote can enter the body through the lungs, stomach, intestines, and skin.
Creosote and Cancer: Exposure to creosote has been linked to causing cancer. Long-term exposure to all different forms of creosote has been specifically linked to cancer of the skin and scrotum.
Environmental Exposure: Creosote can pose a significant danger to soil and groundwater supplies, if mishandled. Once it enters the soil or groundwater, it begins to break down, which can take years. Entire cities and communities surrounding wood treatment plants have witnessed people becoming sick and even dying.
